washington down to the san francisco bay. just take a look at this. the beautiful napa valley tonight has vineyards under water. it was a one, two, three punch. three storms in less than one week plowing down on the west coast, the latest today dropping up to an inch of rain an hour in some spots. in reno, nevada, wind gusts reported to hit 95 miles an hour. nearly 100,000 people without power. homes flooded, roofs smashed and cars under water. rig toppled over. and temporarily closing this bridge, a crucial artery across the san francisco bay. >> be prepared. >> reporter: across northern california, swollen rivers threaten to flood cities like napa where sandbags are passed out and countless trees came crashing down. we saw this one fall before our eyes. how close did it come to you? >> within feet of my truck. >> reporter: we were driving down this highway in napa and this tree came crashing down in front of us. i want to show you how huge this tree is. take a look. a giant tree. i mean, the roots of this thing are four feet tall. now, there may be another storm later in the week after

and folks to safety. across napa valley, incredible flooding there. the napa valley seeing some of its worst rainfall in years. look at these numbers. petrolia, california, over 17 inches. bridgeville, 15 inches. that's an incredible amount of rain. to see that much rainfall is truly remarkable. we are seeing more in the way of rainfall across seattle and portland it has stopped for today in the san francisco area. some of the rainfall yesterday fell in the form of snow, snow levels at about 5,000 feet. i suppose it could have been worse. elsewhere, looking at a foggy travel across the lower great lakes. we'll talk more about that in the next half hour. guys, back up to you. >> rob marciano, thank you. >>> as each day ticks by, the nation edges closer to going over the fiscal cliff. democrats and republicans cannot agree how to raise revenue and cut spending. on january 1st, as many of you know, taxes go up and doeep spending cuts take effect. the sunday talk shows reflect how far apart they are what we will not do is extend those tax cut force the wealthiest americans. there's no possibilit

of other people had to be rescued. napa valley tremendous rainfall there. napa river up and over its floodbanks. the sacramento river also in flood stage. in some cases, almost a foot and a half of rainfall in this five-day period. raining right now in seattle to portland. not raining right now in sacramento and san francisco. but that will likely change as we get through tomorrow, at least tonight into tomorrow. yesterday, punch was pretty strong and you saw the damage from that. our next system about to come in. it will start in the pacific northwest tonight and tomorrow morning and eventually drift down to the south. shouldn't be as strong as far as wind and rain like what we saw the past three. also big issue with fog this morning across the great lakes, down across the southeast. very, very warm from across the eastern sector of the u.s., and with that comes a little bit of fog. >> that's so unusual for california, isn't it? a lot of times reporting there. in that area like that to that degree. thank you for the update. >>> congress heads back to work this morning as the clock i
